NUHSA Accomplishments

2011

  • Annual Report: 2011
  • Identity Development with creation of new logo for NUHSA.
  • Launch of NUHSA Updates, a quarterly newsletter of NUHSA events and projects.
  • Co Sponsored A New Urgency for Leveraging Local Resources with Eastside Human Services Forum: This event featured data and stories showing the impact of recent cuts, examples of innovation leveraging local resources and next steps for all.
  • Affordable Housing and Homelessness Stakeholders Group: Second Annual Forum focusing on services faith communities can provide to assist homeless. Model programs presented included car camping, meals, shelters and permanent housing.
  • King County Mobility Coalition: Completed a survey of consumers and transportation providers in North King Countyto identify needs and opportunities for improving transportation. Advocated for expansion of Hyde Shuttle from Shoreline/Lake Forest Park to selected destinations in North Seattle.
  • Public Policy: Endorsed the Vets and Human Service Levy renewal. Supported the adoption of the Congestion Reduction charge of $20.00 per vehicle, for a two year period, to avert cuts in public transportation.
  • Human Service Awards:  This is the third year NUHSA has solicited submissions recognizing excellence in local human services by Organization, Individuals and Businesses.  The 2011 Human Service Award Winners: Organization: Ronald United Methodist ChurchIndividual: Toni McOmber and Business: Campbell Nelson Cares.


2010

  • Annual Report: 2010
  • Co Sponsored, with Northshore/Shoreline Community Network, a Legislative Breakfast:  NUHSA members and supporters met with new and returning legislators, enabling members to meet and address issues regarding Human Service needs.
  • Affordable Housing and Homelessness Stakeholders Group: co-sponsored a Land Stewardship Workshop in November 2010 aimed at the faith community. Several congregations are planning housing programs as a result.
  • Co-Sponsored King County Mobility Coalition Transportation Forum: NUHSA members, transportation providers and advocates met to identify the priority transportation problems facing North King County. Out of this meeting the North King County Mobility Coalition was formed to begin focused work on transportation, which NUSHA has previously identified as a priority problem in North King County.
  • Published new, updated 2010 version of Human Service Needs in North King County: Report to Decision Makers putting current information regarding the state of human services in the North King County area in the hands of agencies and legislators.
  • Presented Early Learning: State Policies Hit Home: Presented participants an overview of legislative wins, losses and plans impacting early learning.
  • Co Sponsored Report from the Frontlines a first-hand report on human services strengthening the knowledge and possibilities for the North King County area.
  • Co Sponsored Affordable Housing Stakeholders Forum convened to strengthen activities for affordable housing and homelessness prevention in North King County.
  • Incorporation and 501(c)3 granted with tax exempt status retroactive to June 2009, increasing opportunities for funding and self government.
  • Human Service Awards:  This is the second year NUHSA has solicited submissions to recognize excellence in local Human Service Agencies. This year we expanded the categories, an individual award and an organization award. 2010 award winners: Individual: Sue Dahlin, YADA and Organization: Express Credit Union.

2009

  • Annual Report: 2009
  • Tool Kit published: This document created a set of actions that city governments can take with their human service agency partners to promote the health and well-being of their constituents and communities.
  • Presented The Tools You Need to Take Action in Tough Economic Times: resource information and successful programs that can help those most impacted by the recession.
  • To Serve and Protect:  Law Enforcement and Human Services Working Together:  event promoting discussions exploring new ways to work cooperatively.
  • Human Service Awards: The first presentation of the award to an individual and/or an agency offering outstanding human service in North King County.

2008

  • Hosted a Town Hall Meeting on the Equity and Social Justice Initiative in conjunction with King County Public Health Department.
  • Created NUHSA Website, www.nuhsa.org , a new venue for human services information and advocacy in the north end.
  • Presented, with Eastside Forum: Changing Funding Landscape Forum: a symposium on regional funding opportunities to address the current economic climate.
  • Presented Human Services 101 for Elected Officials, an educational event designed to bring the five cities served by NUHSA together to support Human Services.

2007

  • Sponsored Human Services Forum to elected officials, human service agencies and interested parties.
  • Successfully advocated to keep Public Health Clinics in North Seattle (serving Shoreline) and Bothell open.
  • Participated with Eastside Forum on King County Coordinated Special Needs Transportation Steering Committee.
  • Endorsed and worked for successful passage of Mental Health Sales Tax.
  • Published Human Service Needs in North King County: A Report to Decision Makers.

2006

  • Represented North King County in needs assessment leading to Service Improvement Plan directing how Veterans and Human Service Levy funds should be spent.

2005

  • Endorsed and worked for successful passage of Veterans and Human Service Levy.

2003

  • Initiated the One Night Count of the Homeless in North King County.

2002

  • One of eight founders of the Committee to End Homelessness.
