Taking Action: NUHSA Education and Advocacy

As part of our mission, NUHSA advocates on behalf of increased access to human services for North King County residents. NUHSA’s primary focus is city and county issues as they affect North King County. NUHSA will engage in and provide education on those state and federal issues with specific significance to North King County.

Education--2010 Report to Decision-Makers

NUHSA is pleased to announce our second updated 2010 Report to Decision-Makers. You will find new categories, updated information and new charts and references to assist you in assessing the state of human service needs in North King County.

Since the 2007 Report, the area has experienced higher levels of unemployment as a result of the worst recession in U.S. history, with almost one in five families living on an income below twice poverty. The report found the number of people living in poverty higest among  people over 65 and households with children headed by a single female.

The updated report highlights changes in the number and diversity of people living in North King County, focuses on the needs of specific populations including veterans, children and victims of domestic violence. Ways to promote positive mental health among youth are presented as well as asset building strategies to reduce the cost of being poor.

The report is intended to assist key decision makers both public and private, including elected officials, board members of non-profit agencies, foundations and other funders, faith community and business leaders to better understand how they can positively affect access to a sustainable system of human services in North King County.

The 2010 report is a companion to our recent publication Tools for Taking Action in a Tough Economy, with each document supporting the other with actions and ideas that dovetail with the new data provided.

Your membership support helped finance the research and printing of this publication. We thank you for your support.
